We’d like to update our past, current, and hopefully future donors as to what is happening with our GIFTS Rwanda. In the small village of Rugarika, where most of our focus rests, we are thrilled that the villagers themselves are now coming up with good solid sustainable ideas on how to make a real long term difference in their lives for the future.
The villagers’ most recent endeavor is a small soap making business. Supplies were purchased, soap produced, and the soap is being sold to schools, churches, and families. This business will continue with some profits set aside for more supplies. Twelve women also spearheaded an idea to make intricate beaded purses, and after buying supplies, and training for 3 weeks, this took off well. Purses were completed, sold, and more supplies for further production purchased. This still left extra money for food, school fees, and supplies for each family. It is clear that these dear women were very proud of their idea, and that it is successful and ongoing. These two newer projects walk alongside past projects which we have continued to fund, such as building several new houses each year, purchasing cows, goats, chickens, garden tools and seeds for even more community gardens, and providing health care for 200+ families. We have learned that pigs are not a good idea as they run away, so they have been discontinued. This year’s house was a duplex for two sisters and their families. Again, a new idea brought up to us by the men to provide 2 houses in 1 for a better price. The past 4 years we have had a dream to sponsor a chicken farm, which will cost $6,166. We have a donor sponsoring $1000 of this already. Yay! Brigitte Mukanyandwi , who is one of our directors of GIFTS in Rugarika, started up a chicken farm of her own 5 years ago with her husband, Jerome, and they are willing to donate baby chickens for this project. With the support of individuals like you, in 2018 we have been able to make a huge impact in the village of Rugarika, by sending $10,200 three times throughout the year, which provided:
We are super excited to have one of our top goals, Sustainability, (the “S” in GIFTS), which involves projects that can be ongoing, and led by the Rugarika people, going very well, with much anticipation of a beaded purse industry and a chicken farm to start up shortly. It is so fulfilling to see them take leadership! Thank you for all you do for the people of Rugarika. With the support of individuals like you, in 2017 we have been able to make a huge impact in Rugarika, our 2nd village, by providing:
With the support of individuals like you, we have already been able to make a huge impact in Yove by providing:
We recently received updates on the happenings in Yove, Rwanda. Thank you for all of your support and prayer for this community! For our second round of this project, we have bought three more cows, school materials for students as well as fees and health insurance, created a vegetable garden and bought 10 more goats! One of the initial cows recently gave birth, and the calf will be given to another family in need. Praise God! For a limited time we will be matching ALL contributions 100%! You can buy two goats for the price of one, or two house for the price of one! Amazing!!

We have been blessed in that our friend Paterne volunteered recently to take a trip to the village of Yove in order to check up on how things are going there. The following is his report back to us. We are so happy to hear that our projects have been successful, and that the community is grateful for our work! Paterne's first language is not English. We have made some minor changes, but kept most of the writing the same. GIFTS - Rwanda started to sponsor Yove Parish in many different ways which are very important to the Yove people and the whole country in general. GIFTS - Rwanda helped poor people to get domestic animals. It gave them 10 pigs, 10 goats and three cows. Not only the domestic animals but GIFTS - Rwanda also built for a poor family a nice house. Everything which is being done there has a great impact as it is said by Yove society. GIFTS - Rwanda is sponsoring students to help them to go ahead because many of the students drop out due to poverty. It has started with 20 students. They bought different school materials for these 20 students. The students sponsored by Gifts Rwanda All students sponsored are so happy to have got the help, and they thank Gifts Rwanda to have thought about their studies. They said that seems to be the pillar of their future. The table below shows the names of students, members of their family and marks and their class: 1. They are interested by whatever they got and they said that they are going to focus on their studies as they got sponsor. They all thank the LORD who sent someone to help them in preparing their future. How are the people who got domestic animals? The people who got cows, pigs and goats are so happy to have got them. Their purpose is to breed them and give to others from them. They want to share with others who didn’t get any the first time. Here are some photos of the people and their cows: Three people who got cows to breed are doing well and they try their best to take of them so that they will produce by giving birth to other cows. They wish to share with other if the cows they got will produce and they don’t doubt because they said that they got cows of their choice. Some photos of those who got goats: Some photos of the pigs given: Everyone who got a pig or a goat is so happy to have been chosen because they are expecting interest from what they got and they wish to share these with others in the days to come. They thanked a lot to GIFTS to have thought about their lives and remember them. They are so grateful for what they did for them. Pigs are growing up well. After months of waiting to build because of the rainy season, the house is finally finished!! The construction of the new house is progressing well now and it is about the end. The family is so happy to have a nice house they have not had before.
Conclusion:
Thank you all for your support!! The pictures and responses from those in Yove have encouraged us greatly. Please consider donating to help make the list above a reality. The rains have stopped in Yove, which means the construction on our houses can continue! As always, we thank those who generously contributed to help make this possible for a family in need. One of the projects we would very much like to start is to build two dorms at the school. One for girls, and one for boys. Many children walk a long ways to get to school, and on their way home it gets dark and the roads can be dangerous. We have heard of several girls being assaulted because of this. The cost of one dorm is $40,000. Please contact us if you would like to give to this cause! We received an email from Father Janvier with pictures of all the students who were given new uniforms, materials, shoes, and bags for school. Thank you to everyone who generously donated to help make this happen! Pictures and captions provided by Father Janvier. |
