GIFTS Rwanda Project Summary 2020

With the support of individuals like you, in 2020 we have been able to make a huge impact in the village of Rugarika, even during this time of the COVID 19 here in the U.S., and in Rwanda, by providing:

  • 4 duplexes to house 8 families, plus money for furniture, and some food for these families, with a 5th duplex to be finished in early March 2021. This is so exciting!

  • Health insurance for one year for 200 people, (mostly for our students and their families).

  • 29 School Sponsorships--for 1yr., 8 months. Our next school sponsorship fee is in Sept. 2021.

  • Garden tools and seeds for 20 new community gardens! This is huge, and a great help to all the people in the village of Rugarika, especially this year, and sustainable.  Yes!

  • Food was dispersed to the 29 students’ families, which included: beans, rice, maize flour, cooking oil, and soap (the soap made by our successful GIFTS soap making group going strong these past 2 years). This distribution happened in early 2020 as parents were not allowed to leave their villages to work, and many families were suffering with little food.

  • Two water tanks were built attached to 2 of our newest duplexes.  The 4 families then have water for themselves and can provide water for a small fee to their neighbors, to make ends meet, and save long walks for water.

  • Some extra Christmas money for our GIFTS Rwanda Team families: Brigitte Mukanyandwi & Hubinshunti Paterne.

  • For the near future:  We are tallying up our animals and getting more, and thinking of buying some ducks for eggs shortly.

  • GIFTS has sponsored Father Ubald and his Center for Reconciliation and Healing.  He just passed away last month.  We are hoping to donate to his center once again.  What an amazing man with big love and faith!
Our Rwandan Team wanted to start with a modern garden soon.  The first picture shows how the garden looks like without plants and the second with plants.  A fun success for sure!
