Together we ran our Giving Tuesday 2024 Empowering Women, Supporting Families campaign and you raised $40,062 for the following:
  • $19,240 to build a meeting room with an office, serving as an empowerment hub. This space will allow women to gather for essential discussions on topics like money management, conflict resolution, support groups, soap-making, and puberty/menstruation education.
  •  $8,246 to establish a shop where women can sell their handmade products—clothing, beaded bags, soaps, eggs, and vegetables—providing them with a sustainable income.
  •  $4,980 to create vegetable gardens at the Multi-Purpose Activity Center, supplying the community with tools, materials, and seeds for farming.
  • $540 to support 20 villagers in dire need, including individuals affected by cancer, HIV/AIDS, the elderly (one woman is 103!), and orphaned children, by providing food, shelter, education, and essential supplies.
  •  $12,372 to fund tuition for primary, secondary, and university students, giving them the chance to break the cycle of poverty through education.

All projects done in Rugarika 2024 because of you!

This year, your generosity has driven incredible progress in Rugarika. Here’s what we accomplished together in 2024:

  • Built Our Team: Hired the GIFTS Rwanda Board and support staff in Rwanda to strengthen our efforts on the ground.
  • Education Support: Enabled 124 students (44 in primary, 77 in secondary, and 4 in university) to attend school with full tuition, food, uniforms, and supplies—up from 112 children supported in 2023.
  • Essential Food Assistance: Provided 5 families (27 people in total) with staple foods like rice, beans, maize flour, cooking oil, and soap for an entire year. These are families in dire need, including those affected by cancer, HIV/AIDS, elderly, and orphaned children. This continues from 2023 when we supported 5 families.
  • Community Gardens and Livestock: Contributed $3,748 towards domestic animals and vegetable gardens at our new community center, encouraging community collaboration and self-sufficiency. In 2023, we allocated $7,980 directly to families, and this initiative is steadily becoming self-sustaining.
  • Health Insurance: Ensured that 1,237 people received health insurance for a year, matching last year’s reach.
  • Sewing Group Building: Completed construction of the new sewing group building for moms and installed electricity for two sewing machines.
  • Infrastructure Additions: Installed a large water tank and a bathroom on the Multipurpose Activity Center grounds to meet essential needs.
  • Empowerment Hub: Began construction of a building with an office where women can gather for crucial discussions on money management, conflict resolution, support groups, soap-making, and puberty/menstruation education.
  • Equipping Our Team: Added office furniture, including cabinets, chairs, and a table, for the new GIFTS Rwanda board.
  • Women’s Marketplace: Started building a shop where women will sell handmade products like clothing, beaded bags, soaps, eggs, and vegetables—empowering them with sustainable income.
